New Post

You strain to open your eyes.

Will you hit the snooze button for a 7th time?

No.

That’s too far even for you.

You drag your sorry arse out of bed.

Shuffle into the bathroom.

And face up to the fucker that’s going to make or break your week…

The scales.

You take a deep breath, close your eyes, almost fall asleep again, give yourself a shake and…

Step on.

Time stands still.

Until you see the reading…

HA! UNLUCKY FUCK FACE! LOOKS LIKE YOU’VE UNDONE A WEEKS WORTH OF PROGRESS WITH THAT BAR OF CHOCOLATE YOU HAD LAST NIGHT! BACK TO SQUARE ONE YOU GO… IDIOT.

If you’re relating harder than long lost twins then lean in and listen close my scrumptious little borlotti bean.

The scales are an emotional cluster fuck.

And there’s no chance I’m going to solve this for you in one email.

But what I can do is arm you with one tool to make your relationship with the scales a lot easier.

And we’re going to focus on one specific scale related scenario…

The morning after you’ve gone a little bit YOLO (do people still say this?) with your calories.

And to do this we’re going to use some logic and math.

Because when it comes to highly emotional areas I find a little logic goes a long way.

But don’t worry, I was very much at the bottom of my maths class in high school so we’re keeping this VERY simple.

There are 7,700 calories in 1kg of fat.

So, for you to legitimately gain 1kg of body fat overnight you’d have to consume more than 7,700 calories in a single day.

That’s around 4 Large Dominos Pizzas.

Or 9 tubs of Ben & Jerry’s Caramel Chew Chew.

You reckon you’re putting away this much food on those nights when you switch to the “fuck it” diet?

I don’t think so my precious tangerine.

“But Rachel, I had a takeaway and snacks!”

Still not enough to gain weight overnight I’m afraid!

So the real reason the scales are up is because your body is holding onto more water.

Or you’ve not been to the toilet yet.

And what you have to focus on is getting back to normal as quickly as possible.

Because this is how you’ll make progress and realise that one night of going over your calories didn’t stop you making progress.

And that is how you break free from the scales owning your emotional state.

See the logic?

I really hope you do.

Speak soon.

Big Love,
Rachel 🥰
