🟣 The dirtiest word in dieting
smashing windows with dildos
Well if it isn't my frisky little crumpet! 🧇
Now, I’m not exactly known for my etiquette.
I get at least 50 DM’s a week from strangers asking me to stop swearing in my content.
Which only makes me want to swear MORE by the way.
So this might sound like I’m throwing dildos in glass sex dungeons (that is the saying, right?).
But there’s a FILTHY word that’s stopping you from making progress and being a happy little nugget.
It starts with S…
Next comes an H…
Then a, ah fuck sake enough of the titillating…
The word is “should’ve”.
You use it when you play the "should've" game.
You know the one where you say things like…
"I should've gone to the gym more this week".
"I should've eaten better".
"I should've done an extra set".
I didn’t say it was a fun game, did I?
Here's the thing though…
Every time you play the "should've" game, you're basically telling your brain that whatever you DID do wasn't good enough.
Even if you:
Made it to the gym twice this week
Prepped healthy lunches
Got your steps in
Managed to not fly kick Phil from accounts who keeps giving you unsolicited fitness advice (fuck off Phil).
Your brain goes "yeah but..." and discounts all of your hard work.
It's the equivalent of getting a promotion at work and immediately thinking "well I should've got it six months ago."
Let me share something from one of our Team Henley superstars that perfectly captures this:
"I play roller derby, and played my first national team game today. It was so much fun, and I felt strong!
I joined BYB because I find consistency in the gym difficult on top of skating commitments and life.
Having the weekly check ins to remind me to focus on what I have done, not what I should be doing... that's been really helpful!
Thank you Rachel for reminding me not to talk to myself like a dick head.
Oh, and we won!"
See what happened there?
Instead of thinking "I should be more consistent with the gym"...
She celebrated playing her first national game.
Instead of beating herself up about juggling life commitments...
She acknowledged what she WAS managing to do.
And guess what?
She's crushing it.
This is exactly how we do things at Team Henley:
âś… We celebrate what you've done
âś… We focus on progress, not perfection
âś… We don't let you talk to yourself like a dick head
Because contrary to what that voice in your head says, you don't need to do all the things all the time under all circumstances.
You just need to do what you can, celebrate what you've done and most importantly…
Keep showing up
