🟣 Wisdom from the famous five

what’s the opposite of a bookworm?

Well if it isn't my naughty little nectarine! 🍑

Reading and I have a... complicated relationship.

Being dyslexic as fuck (technical term) meant that every book was a proper challenge.

Add to that my weird eye condition that meant EVERYTHING needed to be blown up to A3 size...

And suddenly reading became about as appealing as a kick in the teeth.

So yeah, I've read exactly 5 books in my adult life.

(Or 11 if we're counting Harry Potter, which I absolutely am because those books were proper thick and I deserve the credit.)

And there's this one quote that smacked me in the face when I read it.

It's from "Dare to Live Greatly" (one of my famous five), and it goes:

"We get what we expect in life... People who fear the worst tend to invite it. Heads that are down can't scan the horizon for new openings."

Well smack my arse and call me Little Bo Beep.

That’s some powerful wisdom right there.

And when you think about it…

It perfectly sums up what you do with fitness.

If you expect:

  • To fail (because we always have)

  • To look stupid in the gym (because we're new)

  • To never figure it out (because it seems complicated)

You create exactly what you feared.

Take going to the gym as an example.

  • You expect people to stare, so you feel judged.

  • You expect to fail, so you barely try.

  • You expect it to be hard forever, so you give up early.

When really...

Nobody's arsed about what you're doing.
Progress is more about consistency than perfection.
Everything worth doing is hard (especially at first).

If you feel like I’m describing you down to a tee then your expectations need a loving but firm kick up the arse.

Because when you expect better, you start looking for better.

When you expect progress, you start making progress.

When you expect success, you start taking actions that lead to success.

And if you need help shifting those expectations?

That's exactly what we do at Team Henley.

Loving, firm and fabulous coaching in the most supportive and fun community you’ll ever find.

Big love,
Rachel 🥰
